Who's behind TRASHformations?
M.P. Baldauf, a wild, wonderful recycling artist who loves to make things from items people normally throw away. Her quirky fondness for trash started at the ripe old age of four, when she and her mother cleaned a littered alley in their hometown.
To put a roof over her head and feed Winston, her eternally-hungry pooch, she works as a county recycling coordinator by day. Her other passion - trash to treasure - keeps her hands and mind busy the rest of the time.
Where do you get your pop tabs, gift cards and other items?
Most of the pop tabs are my own or those donated by friends. The gift cards are another guilty pleasure...I'm a shopper! I find other items in junk stores, antique stores, restaurants, eBay, and even on the street! Sometimes these things just show up on my back porch.
So what's the deal with the pop tabs and charities?
I get this question all of the time. While the charities are good ones, pop tab recycling isn't the best way to help them. Contrary to the information often circulated, the tabs are NOT worth more than the cans; both are made from the same aluminum, and you get paid by the pound. (Click here for more information.)
To put this in clearer perspective, 100 pull tabs are valued at less than a dime; 100 aluminum cans would bring in over $3. A better way to help the charities is to recycle whole cans at a buy-back center and donate the money directly to the charity. Better yet, write a check.
Can I custom order something special and how fast can I get it?
Yes, It will usually take two weeks or less, depending on the item. I can SOMETIMES get it out the very next day if you need it sooner!
I saw your work at an event or through a friend, but I can't find what I want on your Web site. Can I still get it?
Probably so - contact us!
Are all of your materials recycled?
Transforming trash is what we're all about. The materials used in our products are primarily reclaimed and diverted from what would normally be thown away. When necessary, new materials are selectively added for functionality and packaging of the products.
Where can I get TRASHformations?
Order items directly from our Web site, check out one of the stores who carries our goods or visit us at a special event, like the Trinity Bazaar in Columbia, South Carolina.
